What’s on in St Andrews during June 2018
With summer on the horizon, getting out and about is a must and a visit to St Andrews is a great way to dust of the cobwebs and start the summer in the right way. The town offers that much variety that there’s something for everyone to explore, from hidden gardens to music festivals to learning new skills at exciting workshops, not to mention family-friendly fun that won’t break the bank!
Forgan’s Kiddie Ceilidh- One for all the family
Get the family together and let the children enjoy a day of traditional ceilidh dancing at Forgan’s restaurant. Get them in the mood to learn the time-honoured dance, learn about the culture and experience the local history coming alive. Perhaps after watching the kids come alive, you can indulge in lunch at the rustic-styled restaurant that offers locally sourced and home cooked food. The doors open for Forgan’s Kiddie Ceilidh at 10:30- 11:30 on Saturday the 9th of June.
Spatz and Co Showband: Something in the air- Music extravaganza
If music is something you love, then a visit to watch the Spatz and Co Showband performance will definitely get your feet moving to the music. Having been part of the music industry for years and have a shared experience of working with famous professional musicians, the Spatz and Co Showband will give you a night to remember.
Taking place at The Brye Theatre on Saturday the 9th of June at 19:30 and tickets costing £20, you can enjoy a wide range of music from Soul and Jazz to Swing, and R&B to Funk, not forgetting popular hits from across the 70’s and 80’s. The Spatz and Co Showband will provide you with music from a variety of famous faces including The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Elton John, Sting and Glenn Miller and Gerry Rafferty.
Summer Blooms- Flower Arrangement
Pop down to the Balgove Larder and join in with one their flower arranging classes taking place on the 10th and 17th of June. Learn a new skill and be able to demonstrate the tricks of the trade when it comes to the world of floristry. Put together a stunning centrepiece, which you can take to enjoy at home with the help of professionally trained flower experts. Classes take place in the flower barn at 10:30 -13:00. Tickets are £45 per person and booking is required.
The Night Market- A fun-filled evening for all the family
The 5th annual night market is back for a fun-filled night of live music and tasty foods at the Balgove Larder. Offering a great evening packed full of mouth-watering street foods and live music and entertainment, the night market has something for the whole family to enjoy. With local acts taking centre stage and a selection of local crafts and stalls on offer, the night market offers a unique night of enjoyment on Tuesday the 12th of June.
Guided Walk- St Andrews through the time
For those interested in the local history of St Andrews, a guided walk conducted by the University museums department is taking place on Saturday the 16th of June at 14:00 until 15:30. The two-mile guided walk will take you through the local streets revealing stories of their roles in the history of St Andrews before it became the modern town it is today. This is a free event, but booking is required. Please dress for the weather.
Hidden Gardens- Nature at its best
For lovers of the outdoors and those that love nature, the St Andrews Preservation Trust is hosting a tour of St Andrews’ hidden gardens, which is taking place on Sunday the 24th of June, from 11 am till 5 pm. The event will focus on a tour of thirteen private gardens surrounding the centre of St Andrews – the perfect way to see the what beauty the bustling town has to offer.
St Andrews’ Preservation Trust Museum also hold daily talks about the history of St Andrews from the 1950’s to the present and the changes that have taken place in order for the town to evolve into a bustling community. Admission is free of charge, every day from 2pm-5pm.
