What’s on in St Andrews in June
St Andrews in June promises to be a wonderful place to be. There are a number of food events taking place which are sure to prove very popular with everyone, and a great chance to really see the excellent local produce that we have up here. There is also plenty of music going on in the month of June. Here, we take a look at some of the highlights that June has to offer.
Markets
June in St Andrews begins with the monthly farmers market which takes place on the first Saturday of every month. There will be a fantastic selection of local produce from all over the region available on the day; everything from fresh dairy produce to fruit and vegetables and local preserves. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample the very best that St Andrews and the local area has to offer.
The Night Market will also take place at the beginning of the month – 4th June from 17.00 – 21.00. A celebration of local makers and producers there will be local food and drink available together with local crafts. Live music will add an extra touch to what promises to be a great celebration of St Andrews. This event will take place at Balgove Larder, Strathtyrum.
Treat your taste buds
The 9th Annual Crail Food Festival will be taking place between the 8th and 9th June. The festival is a celebration of the best of food and drink in Scotland, with particular emphasis on the produce of Fife. There are around 70 participants scheduled to attend the event. There will also be a producer’s market and a series of “chats” with distinguished local chefs and food insiders. Visitors will be given the chance to find out the background to the food and drink that is available. This year the event will be free to attend. The full program has yet to be finalised, but more information can be found on the Crail Food Festival website.
Music for everyone
Get ready for the East Neuk Festival which will be taking place at the end of June, 26th – 30th. What originally started out life as a celebration of chamber music in 2004 has now grown to include so much more. The festival is a celebration of all genres of music, so there really is something for everyone. With a wide range of venues used for the different acts of the festival, there is plenty of opportunity to hear some genuinely fantastic sounds in some somewhat quirky places – everything from ex-nuclear bunkers to stately homes and gardens will find itself playing to host to music during the festival. In fact, none of the venues that are being used this year was actually designed with music in mind – this does mean that while tickets can be purchased in advance seating is difficult to allocate precisely due to the varied layouts. Anyone hoping to attend who may have additional requirements is recommended to check the seating plans on the event website.
